Infrared

Infrared covers three distinct jobs: decoding remote-control codes, detecting object presence with a beam-break or photoelectric switch, and reading non-contact temperature. The parts are not interchangeable across jobs.

TSOP38238 and TSMP96000 for remote-control receive and learn, Adafruit STEMMA IR transceiver for send/receive, IR break-beam and photoelectric switches for presence, and Grove/M5Stack MLX90614 modules for contactless temperature.

  • TSOP38238 outputs demodulated 38 kHz remote codes; the TSMP96000 breakout passes the raw 20–60 kHz carrier for learning unknown remotes; Adafruit's STEMMA IR transceiver pairs a receiver with a high-current IR LED for send and receive.
  • Beam-break detection is a separate function: IR Break Beam sensors (50 cm), the 5 V IR Photoelectric Switch (4 m), and the Diffuse Reflection Photoelectric Switch (0–7 m) give a digital presence signal, not protocol data.
  • Gravity Digital IR Transmitter and Receiver modules are simple 3-pin remote-code links for Arduino. Non-contact temperature measurement — Grove Single-Point and M5Stack NCIR units using the MLX90614 — is the third distinct job in this group.
