Wii Nunchuck Breakout Adapter

Breakout adapter that accepts a Wii Nunchuck connector and provides level-shifted I2C signals plus regulated power for use with 3.3V or 5V microcontrollers. Exposes the joystick, accelerometer, and two buttons over I2C.

  • VIN

Power input for the breakout; Adafruit Learn says to give it the same power as the microcontroller logic level, for example 5V with Arduino.

Type · PowerVoltage · matches host logic supply, typically 3V to 5V
  • 3V

3.3V output from the on-board voltage regulator; Adafruit says up to 100mA can be drawn.

    Type · PowerVoltage · 3.3V output, up to 100mA
  • GND

Common ground for power and logic.

    Type · GroundVoltage · 0V
  • SCL

I2C clock line; level shifted for 3V to 5V logic with a 10K pull-up according to Adafruit Learn.

    Type · I2CVoltage · 3V to 5V logic
  • SDA

I2C data line; level shifted for 3V to 5V logic with a 10K pull-up according to Adafruit Learn.

    Type · I2CVoltage · 3V to 5V logic
  • STEMMA QT

STEMMA QT I2C connector for connecting to STEMMA QT boards/accessories; shares the board I2C and power contract.

Type · UnknownVoltage · 3V to 5V logic supported by level shifting on I2C pins
  • Wii Nunchuck connector

Socket/cutout for a Wii Nunchuck controller; Adafruit states Wii controllers use a standard I2C interface and the notched side goes on the side marked Notch Up.

Type · UnknownVoltage · I2C interface powered through breakout

Start wiring

I2S · I2C · SPI · matches host logic supply, typically 3V to 5V · 3.3V output, up to 100mA

Confirm the data interface matches your host board.

Module pins: VIN, 3V, GND, SCL, SDA. Schematik maps them to your board in the app.
